YMCA Black Achievers
Black Achievers Program Overview
The YMCA Black Achievers Program is a national college readiness initiative designed to help teens of color – Teen Achievers – set and pursue high educational and career goals. Through academic support, career exploration and mentoring from Adult Achiever volunteers, the YMCA Black Achievers Program helps youth:
• Raise their academic standards
• Develop a positive sense of self
• Build character
• Explore diverse college and career options
• And meet and interact with professionals of color – Adult Achievers – who serve as role models to inspire them to greater heights.
The Black Achievers Program reaches into the heart of the community for both its Adult and Teen Achievers. By recognizing, and utilizing the talents of professionals of color who are successful in their careers, the program brings a much needed positive influence into the young people’s lives. Every student stands to gain something from the program.
Vision
To be the leading resource in preparing young people for their futures. Black Achievers accomplishes this by providing leadership experiences for existing and emerging community leaders, as well as increasing community reinvestment of local businesses and organizations.
