There are lots of different ways for individuals and organizations to get involved with One on One and Sponsor-A-Scholar. Some become involved as mentors or recruit members of their organizations to mentor. Others sponsor a scholar financially or donate to programs. One thing is certain though - everyone involved benefits from a mentoring program! Mentoring can enhance a young person's self-esteem, increase a mentor's sense of purpose, give a donor the knowledge that his or her money is making a real difference in the community, or improve teamwork within an organization where the employees are encouraged to become mentors. |

Q: What are the benefits of mentoring?
A: The benefits of mentoring go both ways. Adult mentors often report that their mentoring experiences improved their lives in tangible ways. Not only do they feel better about themselves for playing a positive role in a young person’s life, but they also find that mentoring teaches them more about themselves. Mentors report that they develop more patience, develop new friendships, feel more effective and acquire new skills.
