NEW Kids at the Y (Nutrition, Exercise, Weight Management)
The Y and Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin have partnered
together
to create NEW Kids at the Y. Families’ health is important, and the program gives families opportunities to be physically active and learn healthier habits together. Both parents and children participate.
Concerned about your child’s health and the health of your family?
NEW Kids at the Y is a family-based program addressing weight issues in children ages 7-15. NEW Kids at the Y helps families identify and address the issues that have led to their child’s current level of health and charts a future for the family that is healthier in spirit, mind and body. NEW Kids at the Y is not a diet or boot camp for kids, rather, it is about learning together as a family how to make better choices for a long and healthy life.
We can help.
If you know your child has weight issues and does NOT have any other medical problems associated with their status, NEW Kids at the Y can help your family make changes to prevent health complications in the future.
This program is designed for families with children that have weight issues. Children with a BMI that falls into the 85th percentile are key candidates for the program. A doctor’s referral is required to participate but do not let that stop you from asking more about this program. The steps to get the referral are easy.
How do I get a referral?
Print out the referral form and take it to your child’s pediatrician. If your pediatrician has further questions on the program, they can call the number listed on the referral form. After the referral form is filled out, your doctor can fax it to the Y at (414) 274-6033, or you can drop it off at the Y nearest you.
Where can my family participate?
NEW Kids at the Y is offered at many different centers within the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee. Please call (414) 274-0832 to discuss which center would be best for you.
