YOUTH SPORTS

Youth Sports are a great opportunity to teach values like caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. YMCA Youth Sports help young people become better players and better people by emphasizing skill development over competition. Each program utilizes the YMCA’s seven principles: everyone plays, safety first, fair play, positive competition, family involvement, sports for all and sports for fun!

Youth Sports are divided into modules as follows:

Instructional (I)
     Ages 3-12

Instructional sessions are used as an introduction to the chosen sport. By teaching the basics of each sport or activity, we’ll prepare your child for a more competitive setting. These classes also incorporate our four core values into each sports session.

Minor League (ML)    Ages 3-12
Minor League runs the length of a session and starts with the designated sports skill development.  As the session progresses youth start to apply their skills in game settings.

League Play (L)        3rd grade and up
In league play, youth build a solid understanding of their sport through positive competition. Teams are coached by YMCA staff and trained volunteer coaches. League play will be scheduled per region and the season may end with an association wide tournament based on the sport.

Clinics (C)                 Ages 6-12
Clinics are offered throughout the year as an intense, one-day training opportunity for your athlete. Register for a clinic prior to the start of the sports season to gain an advantage over the competition! Clinics are open to all skill levels.
