YMCA BLACK ACHIEVERS PROGRAM

Each year scholarships are given to help high-achieving students attend a high school, college or university. The scholarships give our students the confidence and courage they need to continue to do well in school and the assurance that their community cares about and supports them. Additionally, a portion of the scholarship fund is set aside to help teens participate in enriching Y programs.

Scholarship applications for 2013 will be available by January 1, 2013.

The Chuck Rhodes Memorial Scholarship was created to honor the memory of Charles “Chuck” Rhodes, a dedicated Y volunteer and committee member, and his long-time commitment to the Y. Chuck served in many capacities over the years, most recently on the YMCA’s Urban Campus board, our YMCA Young Leaders Academy board, and as chair of our Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Breakfast committee.

Four Y youth will be awarded a scholarship on an annual basis in the following categories:

*One Young Leaders Academy student aspiring to attend a private, tuition based high school.
*One Black Achiever who will attend a post-secondary institution.
*Two Y youth who aspire to attend a private, tuition-based high school or who will attend a post-secondary institution but may not be a Young Leaders Academy or Black Achiever student.

Scholarship applications enrollment is open annually March 1 through April 1. Award recipients are announced by May 16 of every year.
